The Marshall Tucker Band The Best Of The Capricorn Years (1994) allmusic.com... One of the major Southern rock bands of the \'70s, the Marshall Tucker Band combined rock, country, and jazz, and featured extended instrumental passages on which lead guitarist Toy Caldwell shone. The band was formed in Spartanburg, SC, in 1971 by singer Doug Gray, guitarist Caldwell (born 1948, died February 25, 1993), his brother bassist Tommy Caldwell (born 1950, died April 4, 1980), guitarist George McCorkle, drummer Paul Riddle, and reed player Jerry Eubanks. The six-piece group was signed to Capricorn Records and released their debut album, The Marshall Tucker Band, in March 1973. They gained recognition through a tour with the Allman Brothers Band and found significant success during the course of the \'70s, with most of their albums going gold. Their peak came with the million-selling album Carolina Dreams and its Top 15 single "Heard It in a Love Song" in 1977. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold & Platinum (1990) {FLAC} vtwin88cube

Lynyrd Skynyrd Gold & Platinum (1990) allmusic.com... Lynyrd Skynyrd was the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band -- they may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. For many, Lynyrd Skynyrd\'s redneck image tended to obscure the songwriting skills of their leader, Ronnie Van Zant. Throughout the band\'s early records, Van Zant demonstrated a knack for lyrical detail and a down-to-earth honesty that had more in common with country than rock & roll. During the height of Skynyrd\'s popularity in the mid-\'70s, however, Van Zant\'s talents were overshadowed by the group\'s gritty, greasy blues-rock. Sadly, it wasn\'t until he was killed in a tragic plane crash in 1977 along with two other bandmembers that many listeners began to realize his talents. Skynyrd split up after the plane crash, but they reunited a decade later, becoming a popular concert act during the early \'90s. allmusic.com...

The brainchild of brothers Ron and Vaughn Benjamin, Midnite formed in the Virgin Islands island of St. Croix in 1989. The quintet members have included Dion Hopkins (drums), Joe Straws (bass), Trippa (guitar), Ron (keyboards), and Vaughn (lead vocals). They\'re popular in St. Croix, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and the East Coast of the States, where they have gigged for a number of years. A well-received three-week South Africa engagement represents their longest trek to date. Other than the Benjamins, the members\' identities are a comparative mystery: Straws (aka Big Bass) has been around for many years, but Hopkins, acclaimed for his one-drop foundation, and Trippa, for his tight backbeat skank, are relative newcomers; Vaughn has been the main songwriter, with Ron serving as the musical director. Steel Pulse, Barrington Levy, Hugh Masekela, and Gladys Knight & the Pips are among the artists Midnite have shared the stage with at various concerts. Their popularity extends to college campuses, including Rutgers, Temple, Johnson C. Smith, Clark-Atlanta University, and many more. Albums like Ras Mek Peace (1999), Vijan (2003), and Treasure (2011) represent their political bent and their dancehall flavor.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Another Dance
Rarities From Studio One (2007)

allmusic.com....

Although most people are very familiar with Bob Marley\'s Island Records years and his attendant international superstardom, the truth is that Marley\'s long pre-Island career releasing singles with the Wailers on small Jamaican labels may well be ultimately more fascinating. This interesting set collects singles and alternate takes that Bob Marley & the Wailers recorded for Clement Dodd at Dodd\'s Studio One between 1964 and 1966, and they show the Wailers moving through ska into a kind of proto-rocksteady stance. The master tapes for these sessions have long since vanished, so everything here is transferred from near-mint condition period singles that Dodd released on his various imprints, which included Coxsone, Studio One, Supreme, Tabernacle, and Wincox. the Wailers were very much a group at this time, and it wasn\'t quite the Bob Marley show yet (that wouldn\'t really happen until Island stepped in almost a decade later), and the heavy influence of American R&B vocal groups is readily apparent, particularly that of Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions. Highlights here include the title track, Mayfield\'s "Another Dance" (featuring a fine tenor sax break by Roland Alphonse); an early ska version of "One Love" (Marley re-recorded the song for 1977\'s Exodus album and that version has been used by the Jamaican Tourist Board ever since in promo spots); the gorgeous "It Hurts to Be Alone," which spotlights the singing talents of early Wailers member Junior Braithwaite (not to mention the jazz guitar figures of Ernest Ranglin); and the tent revival-tinged "I Left My Sins," originally issued by Dodd on his gospel imprint, Tabernacle. More archival and historical in intent than commercial, this set weaves its own magic and spotlights a time when the Wailers were actually the Wailers and not just Bob Marley\'s backup band.

Bob Marley & The Wailers
Gold (2005)

image

allmusic.com...

For marketing purposes, Bob Marley, the Wailers, and Bob Marley & the Wailers have become interchangeable names, used indiscriminately to refer to recordings actually made by separate entities. So, it is worth recalling the distinctions that existed at the times these entities performed and recorded. The Wailers, formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1963, was a vocal group consisting of Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Bunny Livingston, Bob Marley, Peter McIntosh, and Cherry Smith; they were called variously the Teenagers, the Wailing Rudeboys, the Wailing Wailers, and finally the Wailers. Braithwaite, Kelso, and Smith had departed by 1966, leaving the trio of Livingston, Marley, and McIntosh. By the early \'70s, they had begun playing musical instruments and added a rhythm section consisting of brothers Aston "Family Man" Barrett (bass) and Carlton (Carlie) Barrett (drums). After recording extensively in Jamaica, this unit was signed to Great Britain\'s Island Records, which issued its label debut, Catch a Fire, in April 1973, followed by Burnin\' in November. These albums attracted critical attention but did not chart at first.

Neil Diamond - Love Songs (2002) {320} vtwin88cube

Neil Diamond Love Songs (2002) allmusic.com... n a career that began in the 1960s, Neil Diamond became a major recording artist, an internationally successful touring act, and a songwriter whose compositions produced hits for himself and others. His earliest recognition, in fact, came as a songwriter associated with the Brill Building era of Tin Pan Alley in the early \'60s. But he soon branched out into recording and performing, and by the early \'70s was topping the charts with the self-written singles "Cracklin\' Rosie" and "Song Sung Blue." This enabled him to be one of the more noticeable figures in the singer/songwriter movement of the period, as he made a transition to more of an album artist and those albums began to earn gold and platinum certifications. He also developed into a dynamic concert performer, as demonstrated on his 1972 album Hot August Night. At the same time, however, his music became generally softer, which broadened his appeal while earning him opprobrium, when he was considered at all, by the rock critics who dominated pop music journalism. But his millions of fans didn\'t care about that, and they flocked to his shows and bought his albums in big numbers until well into the 1980s. After that, while his concert tours continued to post high grosses, his record sales became more modest. Still, as of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million copies, and early in the 21st century, he ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand, on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart. Motley Crue - Loud As Fuck (2003) {320} vtwin88cube

Mötley Crüe Loud As Fuck (2003) Goin\' out to all the Bro\'s & Broette\'s at Froggy\'s Saloon Main Street Daytona Beach. Cheers! allmusic.com... Mötley Crüe were one of the most influential hair metal bands of the \'80s, boasting a striking visual presence and hedonistic reputation rivaled only by Guns N\' Roses. By combining Alice Cooper\'s shock rock with the bluesy, metallic stomp of the New York Dolls and Aerosmith, they helped establish hair metal as a commercial genre, sending their first five albums to platinum status in the process. Such success was at least partially due to Mötley Crüe\'s reputation as a riotous pack of rabble-rousers, replete with drug addictions, near-death experiences, groupie encounters, and celebrity girlfriends. Of course, that same self-indulgence nearly derailed the band, forcing the musicians to embrace sobriety during the creation of their most successful album to date, 1989\'s Dr. Feelgood. Like most hair metal bands, Mötley Crüe\'s album sales waned during the 1990s, as the popularity of grunge overshadowed most of the music that immediately prefaced it. Nevertheless, the band soldiered through the decade with modest success, releasing two gold-selling albums along the way. The new millennium brought similar luck, as Mötley Crüe established themselves as a fashionable touring act (with Crüe Fest becoming the summer\'s highest-grossing festival in 2008) while continuing to release new material. The Beatles - Solo Artists Compilations {FLAC} vtwin88cube

The Beatles Solo Artists Compilations allmusic.com... So much has been said and written about the Beatles -- and their story is so mythic in its sweep -- that it\'s difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously the best at what they did and the most popular at what they did. Relentlessly imaginative and experimental, the Beatles grabbed hold of the international mass consciousness in 1964 and never let go for the next six years, always staying ahead of the pack in terms of creativity but never losing their ability to communicate their increasingly sophisticated ideas to a mass audience. Their supremacy as rock icons remains unchallenged to this day, decades after their breakup in 1970. Genre................: Rock Source...............: CD Year.................: 1989-2009 Quality..............: Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) Included:............: Covers, Cues, Logs, Audiocheckers George Harrison - Best Of Dark Horse 1976-1989 (1989) allmusic.com... George Harrison\'s albums have been notoriously uneven, but despite the rough patches, his talent for songcraft never really left him, as the compilation The Best of Dark Horse (1976-1989) proves. A 15-song retrospective covering five albums, The Best of Dark Horse contains nearly every gem from 33 1/3, George Harrison, Somewhere in England, Gone Troppo, and Cloud Nine, including "Crackerbox Palace," "All Those Years Ago," "Got My Mind Set on You," "Cloud 9," "When We Was Fab," and the lovely "Blow Away." For most casual fans, the record will be a welcome summation of a hit-and-miss era of Harrison\'s career. George Harrison - Let It Roll The Songs Of George Harrison (2009) allmusic.com... George Harrison had two periods of great commercial success, separated by 15 years and two record labels, which is why there hasn\'t been a career-spanning Harrison collection until 2009\'s Let It Roll:The Best of George Harrison, the first disc to gather songs from Harrison\'s stints at both Apple and Dark Horse. Let It Roll balances these two periods, mixing it all up chronologically, so the set starts with the pristine bounce of "Got My Mind Set on You" before giving way to "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth.)" If anything jars, it\'s the sounds of the times, as Jeff Lynne\'s clean arrangements don\'t necessarily fit with Phil Spector\'s lush productions, but that\'s a minor quibble about a compilation that consolidates Harrison\'s signature tunes onto one very enjoyable disc. John Lennon - The John Lennon Collection (Reissue) (1989) allmusic.com... This 15-song collection (expanded to 19 in 1989 for the CD), released just short of two years after Lennon\'s death, provided a very generous overview of his solo career on a single LP, drawing on most of the major singles and also on songs that were widely covered, and from all periods of his career, from his late-Beatles-era solo political explorations up to the release of Double Fantasy. The producers, obviously working in collaboration with his widow and seeking to put the very best face on his career, and showcase his strongest and most memorable songs, pass right over Sometime in New York and much of the partly successful works that followed, which is sort of a shame -- "Woman Is the Nigger of the World" may not quite rate alongside the stuff that is here, but it was a song that he did care about and played live more than once (significant in a career that included barely any scheduled concerts), and "John Sinclair" showed him playing blues with a ferocious passion. One also misses "Cold Turkey," which is as powerful a song as he wrote in his early solo career, but at the time of its release this was the broadest overview of Lennon\'s career to be found, and even included (on its CD version) the otherwise unanthologized B-side "Move Over Ms. L." Paul McCartney - Wingspan Hits And History (2001) allmusic.com... Paul McCartney always got the short end of the stick when he was in the Beatles and again in the \'70s, as he and his erstwhile partner John Lennon pursued solo careers. McCartney was attacked for his virtues -- for his melodicism and his domesticity, along with his desire to form a real touring band following the Beatles. None of these were celebrated at the time, but he moved many, many records and sold countless concert tickets, which only hardened opposition toward him. But, in retrospect, McCartney\'s albums make for the most fascinating body of work among any of the ex-Beatles, and really among any of his peers. Yes, there were pitfalls among the heights, but that\'s part of what makes his career so fascinating -- each record is distinctive, and even if the songs themselves are shallow, at least lyrically, the melodic skill and studio savvy behind each are hard not to admire. This may require a bit of conversion, and if you\'re not up to trudging through his individual works, even such masterworks as Ram (truly the roots of homemade pop), the double-disc set Wingspan is ideal. McCartney has had a number of career overviews before, including such seemingly comprehensive discs as All the Best, but those were plagued by vaguely haphazard sequencing. This is nearly perfectly executed, dividing McCartney\'s career between the "hits" and "history," with the latter being devoted to album tracks that are acknowledged classics, yet never were singles. Now, it\'s true that this isn\'t completely comprehensive -- some will notice that superstar duets with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson are missing, and others will wonder where such terrific latter-day singles as "Press" are or why such charting hits as "So Bad" are bypassed, or why album tracks like "Ballroom Dancing" are absent -- but nothing has come as close to capturing the quirky brilliance of McCartney\'s solo career, how it balanced whimsical pop with unabashedly sentimental romantic ballads, piledriving rockers, and anything in between. And what makes Wingspan so impressive is how the "History" disc fills in the gaps that "Hits" leaves, whether it\'s on the tremendous "Maybe I\'m Amazed" (one of the very best songs he ever wrote), the charming "Junk," the clever "Take It Away," or such absolutely stunning miniatures as "Heart of the Country," an effortless folk-pop tune that ranks among his very best songs. That\'s why Wingspan isn\'t just a good hits collection -- it\'s a convincing argument that McCartney\'s solo recordings are a rich, idiosyncratic body of work of their own merits. Ram, Red Rose Speedway, and London Town all have their merits, but if you need to be converted, this is where to start. Ringo Starr - Photograph The Very Best Of Ringo Starr (2007) allmusic.com... Hard as it is to believe but there has not been a proper Ringo Starr hits collection since the first, 1975\'s Blast from Your Past -- that\'s not counting 1989\'s Starr Struck: Best of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2, which was designed as a companion to that earlier set -- until 2007\'s Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr. Blast from Your Past was released just five years after his debut, Sentimental Journey, but it ignored that collection of pop standards, along with much of its country cousin Beaucoups of Blues, winding up as a collection of highlights of 1973\'s Ringo and 1974\'s Goodnight Vienna, with a few non-LP hit singles rounded up within the LP\'s tight ten-track, 30-minute span. Ringo kept recording after Blast, working his way through several labels and ill-advised phases before settling into a nice, easy groove with 1993\'s Time Takes Time, but he stopped having hits not long after 1975, after the Elton John/Bernie Taupin "Snookeroo" climbed all the way to number three, capping off a remarkable streak of seven Top Ten singles. After that, the crash was fast: "Oo-Wee" was pulled off of Vienna and stalled at 31, then there was just one more hit -- "A Dose of Rock & Roll," peaking at 26 in 1976 -- before a five-year wait until the George Harrison-written "Wrack My Brain" limped to 38 in 1981 before Ringo disappeared from the charts. His \'90s comeback may have never dented Billboard, but it is represented on the 20-track Photograph, which also contains all the aforementioned singles (apart from "Oo-Wee," no great loss) and the entirety of Blast from Your Past, albeit presented in a different running order. This doesn\'t just make for a compilation that\'s longer than the 1975 set, it makes for one that\'s better, since it adds the terrific "(It\'s All Down to) Good Night Vienna" to the mix, along with the amiable 1976 cover of Bruce Channel\'s "Hey Baby," a duet with Buck Owens on "Act Naturally" from 1989, and a well-chosen selection from each of Time Takes Time, 1998\'s Vertical Man, 2003\'s Ringorama, and 2005\'s Choose Love. This may not hit all the great stuff from the early \'70s -- after all, the whole of Ringo is exceptionally strong -- but it does cut out all the real embarrassing stuff from the late \'70s and just concentrates on the good latter-day material that holds its own with the best of his \'70s hits. Far from merely being songs that are good when graded on a curve, these hits have aged really well, especially his originals: "It Don\'t Come Easy," the thundering glam rocker "Back Off Boogaloo," the cheerfully post-Beatles autobiography of "Early 1970" and "Photograph," his gorgeous collaboration with George, which lends this comp its title and ranks as among the very best post-Beatles songs by any of the Fab Four. That tune proves Ringo could deliver music every bit as memorable as his colleagues and much of this excellent, long overdue compilation is at a similar high standard. [Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr also includes entertaining track-by-track commentary from Ringo and was also released in a deluxe edition that contains a wonderful DVD with the videos for "Sentimental Journey," "It Don\'t Come Easy," "Back Off Boogaloo," "You\'re Sixteen," "Only You (And You Alone)" (which also features Harry Nilsson), and "Act Naturally," along with an ad for Goodnight Vienna. Spanning three discs and 47 tracks, The Anthology So Far collects highlights from all of Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band tours, which means it doesn\'t just have hits from Ringo (basically, all of his solo and Beatles anthems), it also has signature songs from fellow classic rockers like Dr. John, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Joe Walsh, John Entwistle, Dave Edmunds, Timothy B Schmidt, Felix Cavaliere, Randy Bachman, Burton Commings, Peter Frampton, Simon Kirke, Jack Bruce, Eric Carmen, and the great Todd Rundgren. In other words, this is the best of the oldies and, if it\'s taken for what it is, it\'s not bad. It\'s entertaining, well-performed, and filled with songs you know and (if you\'re listening to this) love. That doesn\'t make it necessary, of course, but it is a nostalgic good time if that\'s what you\'re looking for. Support The Artists. Buy it if you like it! Thanks for Seeding Cheers...

Julian Lennon Discography allmusic.com... The son of John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia, Julian Lennon parlayed a remarkable vocal similarity to his father into a successful singing career. John Charles Julian Lennon was born on April 8, 1963, in Liverpool, and as a child, inspired several Beatles compositions: "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" reportedly arose out of a drawing Julian made of a classmate, and following his parents\' divorce, he became the subject of Paul McCartney\'s sympathetic "Hey Jude." Julian began playing guitar and drums at age ten, adding piano as a teenager; he appeared as a drummer on the track "Ya Ya" on the John Lennon album Walls and Bridges. Following his father\'s assassination, Lennon decided to pursue a singing career, although he worried that his vocal and stylistic similarity to his father would prove detrimental. He initially signed a contract to record an unreleased song taken from John Lennon\'s vaults, but after thinking better of it, he enlisted Yoko Ono\'s help in buying out the contract. Lennon signed with Atlantic and recorded his debut album, Valotte, at a French chateau of the same name. The album produced four chart singles, including the Top Tens "Valotte" and "Too Late for Goodbyes"; Lennon was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist. The follow-up, 1986\'s The Secret Value of Daydreaming, reached the Top 40, along with its single "Stick Around." Anthology
Box Set (1998)

allmusic.com...

During the great John Lennon revival of the late \'80s, Yoko Ono licensed to have the Westwood One Radio Network air scores of unreleased home recordings and demos as the Lost Lennon Tapes radio show. At the time, there was endless speculation about when highlights would be released, likely as a box set. The proposed set never materialized, yet most of the material was heavily bootlegged, as the producers and Ono must have suspected. Despite the bootlegs, Ono didn\'t agree to an official collection of unreleased Lennon material until 1998, after the Beatles\' Anthology series proved a critical and commercial success. Hence, the birth of Lennon\'s Anthology -- a four-disc box set, comprised entirely of unreleased home recordings, demos, and outtakes, many of which have never been previously bootlegged. As it\'s constructed, it\'s more of an aural biography than a music album. All the dialogue snippets, half-finished songs, throwaways, and parodies ensure that it\'s never casual listening, yet that very approach creates an intriguing portrait of Lennon -- a portrait of the man, not the artist. As such, there aren\'t really any forgotten treasures buried on the collection, even if many of these songs and takes are either completely unheard of or legendary among collecting circles. For every small pleasure, such as the Cheap Trick-backed version of "I\'m Losing You," there is a small disappointment, such as how the Dylan diatribe, "Serve Yourself," doesn\'t quite live up to its legend. Ultimately, it doesn\'t matter if there are no major works or revelations, just a few good alternate tracks, because Anthology goes a long way toward capturing Lennon with all of his strengths and weaknesses.

Ultimate Bach The Essential Masterpieces Box Set (2006) allmusic.com... Johann Sebastian Bach was better known as a virtuoso organist than as a composer in his day. His sacred music, organ and choral works, and other instrumental music had an enthusiasm and seeming freedom that concealed immense rigor. Bach\'s use of counterpoint was brilliant and innovative, and the immense complexities of his compositional style -- which often included religious and numerological symbols that seem to fit perfectly together in a profound puzzle of special codes -- still amaze musicians today. Many consider him the greatest composer of all time. The Elusive Chanteuse
(Limited Deluxe Edition) (2014)

allmusic.com...

Mariah Carey\'s first proper album since 2009 is a couple covers away from being as nostalgic as the Glitter soundtrack. Its title -- well, the part that precedes the ellipses -- is taken from a self-portrait, reproduced on the back, drawn at the age of three and a half. "I\'ll just sit right here and sing that good old school shit to ya," she sings on "Dedicated," a song seasoned with a Wu-Tang sample, a Nas throwback verse, and reminiscent chatter. Like many other songs on the album, flashbacks are laced through the music as well as in the lyrics, with Carey reflecting upon happier moments in a relationship while either pining or scolding. The feel-good "You Don\'t Know What to Do," one of a few songs made with Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, cleverly interpolates Inner Life\'s 1979 disco classic "I\'m Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)" and has Carey channeling the group\'s Jocelyn Brown throughout, especially in the intro. In sharp contrast with Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, a set produced strictly by Carey, Tricky Stewart, and the-Dream, this involves numerous co-writers and co-producers who bring distinct material, from the dusty and dreamy feel of "#Beautiful" (with Miguel) to the pumping, Eddie Kendricks-sampling "Meteorite" (a Q-Tip co-production). Additional co-producers Hit-Boy and Mike WiLL Made-It provide up-to-date elements, while the latter half involves a couple of gospel-flavored standouts, the latter of which is an inspired tribute to the Reverend James Cleveland. The quality level is as varied as the sounds -- a quality that makes the set play out like a collection of songs that could have been edited and/or sequenced in innumerable ways. The standard edition could have done without the clumpy and jumbled "Money ($ * / ...)," the oddly cheap-sounding cover of George Michael\'s "One More Try," and the stiff and empty "Thirsty," all of which weigh down the hour-plus program. Carey unfortunately doesn\'t feel nostalgic for the succinctness of her early albums, but this shows that she\'s still capable of delivering 40 minutes of strong, supremely voiced R&B when she\'s up for it.

Greatest Hits (2007)

allmusic.com...

Frank Sinatra was arguably the most important popular music figure of the 20th century, his only real rivals for the title being Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles. In a professional career that lasted 60 years, he demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain his appeal and pursue his musical goals despite often countervailing trends. He came to the fore during the swing era of the 1930s and \'40s, helped to define the "sing era" of the \'40s and \'50s, and continued to attract listeners during the rock era that began in the mid-\'50s. He scored his first number one hit in 1940 and was still making million-selling recordings in 1994. This popularity was a mark of his success at singing and promoting the American popular song as it was written, particularly in the 1920s, \'30s, and \'40s. He was able to take the work of great theater composers of that period, such as Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Richard Rodgers, and reinterpret their songs for later audiences in a way that led to their rediscovery and their permanent enshrinement as classics. On records and in live performances, on film, radio, and television, he consistently sang standards in a way that demonstrated their perennial appeal.

Shaggy The Boombastic Collection Best Of Shaggy (2008) allmusic.com... Emerging in the early \'90s, Shaggy was the biggest crossover success in dancehall reggae. Not only did he become the genre\'s most commercially potent artist in the international market, he was also more than just a typical flash in the pan, managing to sustain a career over the course of several highly popular albums. Perhaps in part because he wasn\'t based in Jamaica, he never really needed to have it both ways: virtually ignoring the hardcore dancehall crowd, his music was unabashedly geared toward good times, a friendly (if horny) persona, and catchy party anthems. He wasn\'t shy about lifting hooks wholesale from pop hits of the past, a chart-ready blueprint similar to that of hip-hop stars like Puff Daddy, but he also had fairly eclectic tastes, giving his records a musical variety lacking from other dancehall stars. As a result, he became one of the scant few reggae artists to top the album and pop singles charts in America, not to mention numerous other countries where he\'s had even greater success. Rob Zombie Past, Present & Future Updated (2014) allmusic.com... Past, Present & Future is the first-ever Rob Zombie retrospective. The collection is steeped both visually and aurally in the scary monsters, sexy women, and schlock horror images that have always adorned Zombie\'s death\'s-head calling card; from a strictly musical standpoint, his turgid industrial sludge and beyond-the-grave vocals benefit greatly from the set\'s liberal editing. That\'s because Zombie has always had one fabulously filthy gear, and his pedal is always scraping the metal; Past\'s 19 tracks simply streamline his career\'s death race into one satisfying 2000-mile straightaway. "Thunder Kiss \'65," "Dragula," and the incredible, impossible, wonderfully stupid "More Human Than Human" attack the eardrums with toxic vengeance; collaborations with Alice Cooper and Howard Stern approach the proto-industrial grind of KMFDM; and kooky covers of "I\'m Your Boogieman" and "Brickhouse" run the originals\' disco beat through a freaky fun house filled with lurid porn samples and booty-shaking bottom end. (The latter track even pulls poor Lionel Richie into a duet with Rob and raunchy Trick Daddy protégée Trina). "Pussy Liquor" is just dumb, but again, you have to be amazed at Zombie\'s ability to get away -- and even do well with -- such stupidity. After all, behind the dreads, monster makeup, and platform boots, Zombie is a likeable, talented creative with a flair for reinvention. Rob Zombie Discography (1998-2013) allmusic.com... The longtime frontman for metal superstars White Zombie, Rob Zombie was born Robert Cummings on January 12, 1966, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, forming the group soon after moving to New York City circa 1985. He subsequently worked as a bike messenger, porn magazine art director, and production assistant for the classic children\'s TV series Pee-Wee\'s Playhouse, concurrently leading White Zombie through a series of cult-favorite indie releases; the success of their 1992 major-label debut, La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1, not only launched Zombie to new prominence within the music industry, but also allowed him to try his hand at animation (most notably a hallucinatory sequence of the feature Beavis & Butt-Head Do America) and directing (he was slated to helm the third chapter of The Crow franchise, working from his own screenplay, but Miramax Films eventually pulled out of the deal).
